La bonga

Two decades after a death threat caused the Afro-Colombian community of La Bonga to flee, the townspeople embark on a symbolic journey through the jungle to resurrect a home that exists only in their memories.

Curator's Note

The violence in recent Colombian history, how it affected its citizens, is literalized in the small town of La Bonga. Thus the journey back to it is a journey back to the past (of a country, of a people). The beauty of La Bonga is then that this is not done in somber tones, but rather with a vibrant spirit. It's a celebration. - Jhon Hernandez
