At the height of her career, Lina, a 34-year-old Argentine stylist, is driven by a sudden impulse after an award ceremony in Switzerland. Back in Buenos Aires, she says nothing, but something in her has shifted – quiet and invisible, it subtly unravels a past she thought she had left behind.

Curator's Note

Sometimes films fascinate us for no other reason that they present a character who we can’t figure out, who intrigues us, who makes us sit closer. One by one the expected roles of wife and mother no longer make sense in the same way. The images of the our everyday world begin to unsettle us and nothing quite explains the unease we feel. Todd Haynes’ Safe is not too far away, yes, but the mystery shoots off in various directions which are hard to reconcile. There’s class tension, there’s marital discord, there’s ambivalence about motherhood, unresolved issues with her family - all of this adds up to what exactly? It’s our act of looking, our investment in the image of this woman that intensifies the mystery and our fascination. - Jhon Hernandez
